The Ancient and Honorable Order of Loonatics

The story of the Ancient and Honorable Order of Loonatics begins many years ago when Sir Bailes, the founder of our order met his bride. Loon you see had been in lovely Heather's family for generations. She did not know it at the time but she was to become our Nora of Kelmendi, our Joanna of Flanders, our Iris! For when Heather and Sir Bailes wed in sacred matrimony, the lake, the mountains and all the splendid land surrounding this hamlet became his dominion.

Three miles of fresh water, cool breezes, swooning crows and Persian blue vistas, Loon soon became much more than a home for Bailes - It became his spiritual refuge, his Thebes.

The earliest images of Sir Bailes enjoying a sun bath at lake shore show a mature male, bearded and robed. He holds a fennel staff, tipped with a pine-cone. Later images show him as a beardless, sensuous, naked or half-naked androgynous youth.

His procession of seers is made up of wild indulgent middle aged boys, bearded satyrs with strange dialects. Some are carrying  hunks of smoked pork, some dance or play music some stand on frozen lake and listen to screams of laughing owls.

We remember, in our reverence the roles of the Loonatics... the saints
We call to Sir Bailes the Patriarch,
Sir Peter the Thirsty,
Sir Hartzy the Naked One,
Sir Timothy the Minstrel
Sir Jonathan the Hatted
Sir Francis of Whiskey Stew and Sir Marc of Dreyfuss

The many bearded onlookers, the men of the land
We, no matter what our work, are worthy,
Part of an ancient order.

Every role is useful to the work of the Order and to the sanctity of the Lake.

Each day, we feed our spirits
The indwelling spirit within us
We feed our spirits with the living waters of Loon
The life giving waters, the holy waters
Ageless and timeless

Each day, we meditate on the brotherhood
The history of old, the stories of the sons
And the lives of the brothers,
We shall again return
Our lives forever sewn tightly
Through The Ancient and Honorable Order of Loonatics
